Stamped & Sovereign - Philippines
Declared independence from Spain, June 12, 1898
By November 1898, postage stamps were locally printed in Manila by Lithographia del Gómez, the tiny Santa Cruz workshop - becaming potent symbols of self-rule. Bearing the sun‑with‑rays emblem of the Katipunan, these locally‑made “Correos y Telégrafos” represented emblems of resistance. Though their practical postal use was brief, they mark the nation’s first visual declaration of sovereignty—tiny posters that mailed a bold revolution to the world.
